Websites for Sale

Information on websites for sale.

Very often domain owners put up websites for sale. Here they will be selling the URL, domain, website content, copyright, script license, marketing information, existing membership etc. The traffic to a web site determines its demand. If a web site enjoys considerable traffic, its demand and price will also be very high.

There are certain rules concerning websites for sale. They are the following.

  • You can sell only the sites that you own.
  • Never list sites with illegal/objectionable content.
  • You don't have the right to post links to external auctions before selling the site.
  • Advertising on any unrelated thread is prohibited.
  • Never create multiple advertisement thread even in the proper location while the other is usable.
  • Linking to sites which are objectionable is strictly prohibited.

If you break any of these rules, an administrator or moderator will decide on the action which is to be taken against you. Their decision is final.

If you want to get the best price for your website, the process of selling might turn out to be a long one. The following tips may come in use if you are thinking of selling your website:

  • Please continue to run your website even if it is not selling.
  • If your website has real value then you can discuss the matter with a CPA or an attorney before starting the sale.
  • Take time to locate websites that have been sold and are similar to your website.
  • It is better to share some confidential information because the less information you give the lower will be the bidding amount from potential buyers.

Usually most website sellers expect the buyers to pay one lump sum payment. However, it is better to receive the amount in at least two payments. The reason is that a single payment will force the seller to transfer the site to the buyer without considering other terms and conditions in the rest of the sales contract.

The next time when you plan to put up your websites for sale, just consider the above described points.
