.aero Registration.aero RegistrationThe .aero registration is reserved for the air-transport industry and imparts a distinctive identity to websites connected with it. Introduced in 2002, the .aero - an abbreviated form for airplane - is the first industry based, sponsored generic top-level domain (gTLD) in the world. ICANN (the Internet Corporations for Assigned Names and Numbers) assigned the administration, control and operation of the .aero registration service to SITA (Societe Internationale de Telecommunications Aeronautique.) The .aero domain names are more expensive than other top level domains. Aviation entities from all over the world including companies, individuals, associations, governmental agencies, airports, airlines, air-travel industry and related communities can register .aero domain in the name of the air-transport company, trademark, brand, airports and slogans. According to the IATA airport codes and IATA Airline Designators, a registrant who seeks registration codes for airport and airline should follow certain criteria to pre-register three character airport code and two character airline code. While creating an .aero domain name, never use underscore symbol. The hyphen symbol cannot be used at the beginning or end of the domain name. You can check the eligibility criteria for .aero registration at http://www.information.aero. Proof of eligibility is mandatory. After selection of domain name, check the availability of the name. Before registration, request SITA for an aviation community membership ID by submitting the online request form available at http://www.information.aero/index.php?id=506. You can register a .aero domain by downloading the registration form available at a selected registrar.
