Unofficial Websites

Information on unofficial websites.

Unofficial websites are those websites which are not created by an official company or an organization. These are set up by individuals or agencies, who are passionate about something or other. There are numerous unofficial websites, especially those about actors, writers, painters, music, travel, hobbies, politics, and more. Unofficial websites act as resources on particular subjects and provide a platform for those with common interests to indulge in lighthearted as well as exciting discussions and debates. The information provided by unofficial websites cannot always be considered reliable.

Unofficial websites are usually not for profit or commercial purposes. An example of an unofficial website is the CSUSM (California State University, San Marcos) website. This website is a zone for students, staff and guests of California State University to keep web pages of their own. Your account is no longer functional once you leave the university campus.

Unofficial websites provide a number of links to related websites, blogs, forums etc. to maintain the visitors' interest. They contain reviews, interviews, interesting pictures, photos and many other attractive features. For instance, a website dedicated to a singer or some other artist will have a great deal of interesting information for fans and admirers. Most of the unofficial websites allow users to update the information provided. Some websites require you to register, while some others are absolutely free. What is most appealing about unofficial websites is that users feel that they are very much part of the site.

Unofficial websites may have their disadvantages as well. Since information provided is mainly user based, it might be unreliable to a certain extent. The creator/s may not be a professional and may be short of funds and this might affect the general layout and presentation of the website. Unofficial websites may have low standard graphics, inactive links, spelling errors, and many such problems.

However, unofficial websites managed by really committed individuals and agencies enjoy a high rate of visitor traffic and consequently higher page ranks. It cannot be denied that some of the best and popular Internet zones are those occupied by unofficial websites.
