.ee Registration

How do you register a .ee domain name?

The .ee extension, introduced in 1992, is the official internet country code top level domain for Estonia in Europe. The .ee registration is managed by EENet (Estonian Educational and Research Network), a non-profit, government organization in Estonia. Since 1997, EENet operates as a state agency administered by the Ministry of Education and Research. EENet represents Estonia in several international networking organizations and projects. Only companies with an official address in Estonia can register an .ee extension. Each company can register only one domain. Domains under .ee are meant for the institution's identification on the Internet, so registration of additional domain is not possible. The domain name should be exactly the same as the company name. The first-come-first-serve principle is applied for .ee extensions.

Companies and institutions in Estonia with a commercial character and private individuals can register a .co.ee extension. This is a free registration process and you can register as many .co.ee domains as you want without any restriction. Only the original Estonian version of the Regulations on the Registration of Domain Names under .ee is legally binding.

All name servers for the domain name have to be configured before submitting the application. This is one of the technical requirements for the .ee subdomains. A company must be registered in Estonia in order to register a domain name under .com.ee and .ee. Any domain whose legal holder no longer exists will be shut down. If the applicant has presented false data the hostmaster may annul the registration of the domain. In such cases a domain name may be transferred from one holder to another. The same will be the case if the former holder releases the domain by sending an official letter signed by the authorities to the registry. You can get the .ee registration form from the following link: http://www.eenet.ee.
