.gl Registration

A .gl domain is available for those associated with Greenland. Introduced in 1994, the .gl domain name is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Greenland. TELE Greenland A/S, an organization set up by Greenland's Home Rule Government, is the sponsor as well as the registry of .gl domain names. This firm is vested with the entire administrative responsibility of Greenlandic Top-Level-Domains (GL-TLD) and has the power to authorize the registration of domain names with the .gl extension. It is very simple to register a .gl domain. The domain names can be registered directly at second level beneath various generic second level categories. Registrants usually get their .gl registration with extensions such as .com.gl, .co.gl, .edu.gl, .net.gl and .org.gl.

Certain conditions exist for using a domain name in the GL zone. To register a .gl website, your domain name may include characters from A to Z, 1 to 9 and hyphens. In addition, the domain must have at least two domain name servers. Every domain name can have between 3 and 25 characters, in addition to the .gl. The length of the domain name must not exceed 63 characters. Both lowercase and capital letters in a domain name are recognized as the same. It should be noted that the .gl domain name cannot begin or end with a hyphen. Avoid using domain names consisting only of numbers. The Danish letters such as æ, ø, and å cannot be used as part of a domain name; therefore, these should be translated as ae, oe and aa on the Internet.
