The .hk registration process was first introduced in the year 1990, and since then enjoys active status among all other domain names in the world and is very popular in Hong Kong. This registration is open for all entities connected with Hong Kong. It should be noted that it can take between 3 and 14 days to register a .hk domain name depending upon the time the applicant takes to apply and the registrar takes to verify the application. The registry that is assigned the .hk domain name administration is Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited or HKIRC, a privileged cyber identity in the country. To register an .hk domain name, you must either have a company, a charity or educational institution registered in Hong Kong. In addition, an organization that desires to register a .hk domain name must follow the latest registration agreement set by the Hong Kong Domain Name Registration Company Limited (HKDNR). All registrants are eligible to apply for multiple domain names, but all those whose domain names are under old agreement can register for only one .hk domain name. Any Hong Kong identity card holder who is 11 or older may apply for individual domain names (.idv.hk). Overseas individuals or entities are also eligible for .hk registration.
