.id Registration

The .id extension is the allocated country code top level domain (ccTLD) for the country Indonesia. These domains are intended for use by any entity associated with Indonesia. The .id registration is applicable for academic institutions, commercial entities, informal and formal organizations, government and governmental systems.

The .id registration, managed by the DEPKOMINFO, was introduced in the year 1993 and became fully operational in 1996. Within the .id domain extension name, there are several second level domains. They are:

• web.id: for informal organizations/personal
• sch.id: for schools

When it comes to choosing a domain name and registering an .id domain, there are a set of rules and requirements that must be met by the registrants.

In order to get .co.id domain name, the domain name must resemble the Indonesian corporation name or Indonesian trademark application/registration. The registrant must have some form of local presence such as a sole agent, branch office, etc. in Indonesia. If the registrant is unable to meet the requirement of having a physical business presence in the country, the registrant will be provided with the registration of the domain in the name of a representative in Indonesia. This option is available at an additional cost.

You can also use the trade name as your domain name under .id registration. For this, you must keep a copy of trademark of a company registered in the country.
