.ie Registration

How do you register a .ie domain name?

The .ie extension is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) allocated by IANA for the Republic of Ireland, a country in north-western Europe. From 1988 to 1999, the domain name registration service in Ireland was managed by the University College Dublin. Since the year 2000, though, Ireland's national domain service has been managed and operated by IE Domain Registry (IEDR).

For .ie registration, an applicant must be a citizen of Ireland, possess a real presence within the 32 counties of Ireland, or have documented evidence specifying substantive connection with Ireland (those applying with a registered community trademark). The domain name you wish to register can be a personal name, registered trade mark or business name, state agency name, publication name, personal trading name, politician's name, or educational institution name. Normally applicants can register only one domain under .ie zone. All domain names must consist of at least two characters and should not exceed sixty seven characters including numbers, English alphabets (upper case or lower case) and hyphens. Hyphens cannot be used at the start or end of the domain name. Each label in the domain name must be separated from the next by a dot.

Along with the online application form, you have to pay a registration processing fee of €69 plus VAT. Second level sub domains registration for the primary sub domains are .nli.ie for national library, .gov.ie for government entities, .com.ie for commercial entities, .net.ie for network, .org.ie for organization entities, and more. Host your business website or individual sites by downloading the online application from http://www.domainregistry.ie. Submit your completed application to resellers@iedr.ie. Your .ie registration will be activated within twenty working days counting from the day of submission.
