.jo Registration

The .jo extension is the country code top level domain (ccTLD) for Jordan. The .jo domain registration introduced in 1994 was mainly intended for the use of private and public organizations, businesses, educational institutions and individuals connected with Jordan. Jordanian companies and organizations registering under .jo need to provide official documents such as commercial registration, trademark registration, license and other related material.

The National Information Technology Center is the organization that sponsors and governs the .jo domain registration. All operations associated with .jo registration are administrated by DNS. The DNS offers .jo domain names for a registration fee of $250.00 for a two-year contract. Multiple domains are also allowed. Second level sub domain registration is possible under top level .jo domain names.

• .net.jo : for internet service providers and network related firms
• .com.jo : for commercial organizations
• .org.jo : for non-commercial organizations
• .gov.jo : for government and government related organizations
• .edu.jo : for educational institutions, universities, etc.
• .sch.jo : for schools
• .mil.jo : for Jordan military

The Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (URDP) was drawn up for the resolution of disputes regarding .jo registration. This policy currently is applicable to all the top level and second level .jo domain names. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has the complete responsibility for the establishment of URDP.

NITC registers .jo domain names on a "first come first serve" basis. Local presence is not required for .jo domain registration. The administrative contact must be in Jordan but the technical contact can be outside Jordan. http://www.nitc.gov.jo/ is the official website for .jo domain name registration. The domain names should not be used for unlawful purposes and activities violating Jordanian law. The .jo domain names registered online will be activated within 24 hours after receipt of payment.
