.li Registration

How do you register a .li domain name?

The .li extension is the top level domain (TLD) assigned by IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) to the Principality of Liechtenstein, a small landlocked country in central Europe. Created in the year 1993, the .li domain is sponsored and maintained by the Hochschule Liechtenstein.

Domain names with .li extensions can also be registered with SWITCH, the administrator of Switzerland's .ch ccTLD. The .li registration is flexible and requests for registration will be handled on a first come, first served basis. Whether applicants are local or foreign, the .li domain registration policy permits them to register as many domain names as required for as long as required.

Though flexible and convenient, there are certain conditions which must be satisfied for registration. Registration requests for .li domain names must be accompanied by all necessary information, including both contact and billing information for the registrant. To register a .li domain name, applicants must have at least one fully functional and correctly configured domain server. Additionally, domain names containing less that three characters or more than 63 characters and those beginning with or ending with hyphens will be rejected. Domain names, identical or confusingly similar to an already registered domain name or one in the process of being registered, will also be denied.

To transfer ownership of a domain name, an applicant must obtain consent from SWITCH. A dispute resolution service is also available for all disputes that arise concerning .li domain names. Fees are due at the time of registration, annual subscription and subsequent procedures for update requests and transfers. The fees plus VAT charges are to be made in Swiss Francs. If you want to get more information about .li registration, visit the official website of SWITCH at http://www.switch.ch.
