.my Registration

How do you register a .my domain name?

A .my extension is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) approved by ICANN for Malaysia. Introduced in 1987, the .my registration service is sponsored by MIMOS Berhad. MYNIC Berhad (Malaysian Network Information Centre) is the registry and registrar for .my domain registration.

Before applying for a .my domain, applicants must be aware of the terms and conditions of the registration agreement. Any registrant, such as individuals holding a Malaysian National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) or those holding a valid Malaysian passport can apply for personal domain name registration under .my registration zone. Each applicant can register up to eight personal domain names. The domain names you suggest must resemble your identity/name (as per identity card). All organizations registering under .my registration zone must submit a proof of identity before MYNIC. The names you choose for organizations must be the name of the organization/institution as in the relevant supporting documents.

For the domain name, you can accommodate alphanumeric characters ranging from one to forty. The elements in the domain name should be ideally separated by hyphens. It is not recommended to use underscore, ampersand, oblique or slash, dot or period or white space. Use lower case characters since the domain name system is case sensitive.

The second level domains under .my domain name are:

  • .com.my for commercial organizations
  • .net.my for network-related organizations
  • .org.my for organizations
  • .gov.my for Malaysian government organizations
  • .edu.my for Malaysian educational organizations
  • .mil.my for Malaysian military organizations
  • .name.my for Malaysian individuals' personal use

You can download the online application form at http://www.mynic.net.my for .edu.my, .gov.my, and .mil.my domain names. The registration of .com.my, .net.my, .org.my and name.my domain names are done through officially appointed partners of MYNIC. The domain name registration form/renewal form is to be submitted to domreg@mynic.net.my. Within three days of submission, the contact person specified in the application form will receive an email from the administrator explaining the reason for rejection or approval of application, as is the case. Usually, for a new .my registration process, the registration price is charged to a maximum of RM100.00.
