.sh Registration
How do you register a .sh domain name?An organization, individual, business or other entity associated with the island of St.Helena can avail of the .sh registration in order to establish their identity on the Internet. Introduced in the year 1997, the .sh was assigned as the country code top level domain for Saint Helena, an overseas territory of Great Britain in the South Atlantic Ocean. The .sh domain registry is sponsored by the government of St.Helena and directed by the Internet Computer Bureau PLC (ICB). The registry is provided by NIC.SH, run by the Internet Computer Bureau.
Anyone can register a .sh domain name. Internationalized domain name registrations are accepted for .sh. Multiple domains are also allowed, which means that anyone can choose more than one domain name with the the .sh extension.
The second level domains allowed are: .sh are: .com.sh, .co.sh, .net.sh, .org.sh, .edu.sh, .gov.sh, mil.sh. All characters, digits and hyphens are allowed in the domain name, except that the hyphen can not occur either at the beginning or the end of the domain name. The domain name is allowed to be between 3 to 63 characters long. The registration term for .sh registration may vary from 1 to 20 years.
There should be at least two name servers for the .sh domain. However, there is no restriction for the IP address (Internet Protocol address) of name servers. No .sh domains shall be used against the statutory laws of any nation. If any site violates this rule then the authorities have the right to deactivate the registration. Any false information given at the time of application may also lead to the rejection of applications. Any legal action regarding the agreement may be brought to England.
Top level and second level domain names are not allowed to be used at the third level. To obtain a second level domain, the registrant should have a domicile in the legal jurisdiction and may hold an academic or professional qualification. For third level domains, he/she must be a resident on the Saint Helena Island.
The allocation of domain names is based on a first-come-first-served basis. The registration fee for .sh domain is $ 250.00. Once registered, the authorities may delete the domain name entry from the registry in case of any violation of rules but refunding of fees is not possible. The applicant may modify the registration of .sh domain name through e-mail from the registered administration e-mail account.
