If you are new to Buydomains we would like to offer some essential advice to help you navigate the ins and outs of domain names.

You should first learn if someone else owns the name you want to use before you register it. Type "whois" into a search engine or address bar and one of the domain name registry services will allow you to do a "whois" search. If the domain name is available, you can register it. A web site registrar is a service that adds your domain name to the worldwide Domain Name System (DNS). Once your domain name is registered, it's associated with an IP (Internet Protocol) address. Domain names exist so that people don't have to memorize their twelve-digit IP addresses.

When you submit your domain name to a web site registrar, you must also choose one of the extensions: such as .com, .net, .info, or .org. The most popular is .com, especially for business and shopping sites, but the other extensions also do well in search engine rankings. While you need not register your domain name with more than one extension, doing so can prevent others from registering your domain name with a different extension and diverting some of the traffic intended for your site.

To be sure that you've chosen a reputable registrar, check the InterNIC Accredited Registrar Directory at internic.net. Domain name registrars have payment plans that allow you to pay the fee for several years in advance. The annual cost decreases as you increase the number of years.

You can choose to pay an additional fee to protect your account information from the public eye. Your business name, address and telephone number are required for the DNS, and anyone can look it up unless you pay to keep the information private, much like an unlisted telephone number.
