Learning from the past
In 1998, Jason Yelowitz founded a company called iCastle.com. Like many companies of the day, however, iCastle quickly buckled beneath the weight of too large a staff, unrealistic investor expectations and a lack of sustaining capital. In 2003, he formed a new company called Yeloweb, taking a completely opposite approach to building his business.
Jason hired a minimal staff, which he says allows him "to avoid the need for outside funding and have a quick, decisive leadership style rather than one necessitating lots of meetings. We can generally make a decision on whether to do a business deal in less than five minutes."
Yeloweb generates online leads across several verticals including: home improvement and real estate, with such websites as www.HousePainting.net (purchased from BuyDomains in 2006) and www.eHouseHunting.com. They generate traffic through a combination of search engine marketing and search engine optimization. Jason notes, "Having valuable domains certainly helps with the latter."
"It was worth it to purchase this domain name from buydomains.com. Not only does it receive organic traffic, but it receives better click through rates on paid search due to the instant recognition it garners." — Jason Yelowitz, Founder
Household domain names
When it came time to find the right domains for his business, Jason discovered BuyDomains by doing a Google search. Regarding his purchasing experience through BuyDomains, Jason remarks: "What stands out about BuyDomains is that the staff was easy to work with, professional and quick. They had a realistic vision of the value of certain domains (as opposed to buying from individuals who sometimes have outrageous expectations) and were just as interested in making a deal as we were."
Yeloweb's future plans include creating deeper coverage in a relatively few verticals, becoming the best in each space. Yelowitz has an interesting approach to competitors; viewing them as future partners, instead of opponents.
Jason explains, "If competitive forces prevent us from making a deal with someone today, we always keep them in mind for tomorrow."
